Adventures in Book Collecting: Who Owned Kerr's Hawkins?

Over at the Volokh Conspiracy, Orin Kerr reports on a recent acquisition, an edition of the first volume of Hawkins's Crown Pleas, and offers some speculations on its provenance.

Update: on the significance of Dublin editions for American lawyers, see Daniel J. Hulsebosch, "An Empire of Law: Chancellor Kent and the Revolution in Books in the Early Republic," Alabama Law Review 60 (2009): 337 ff., which also appears as an SSRN paper, here.
